Stewarts Canal, Parson's Creek near Madison, MD.  Seven Mile Canal hand dug and built by free and enslaved people between 1810 and 1830.  Now called Coursey's Creek.  Originally used to transport timber and agricultural goods out of the interior forests and fields of area landowners. Photo taken from bridge over creek along Route 16 heading west towards Taylor's Island.  The Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Monument and Jacob Jackson's homesite is located to the east of this canal.
